Data Science & Mathematics Scope & Priorities
Statement: Proposals are sought in mathematical formulation, statistical methodologies, and provable algorithmic solutions. Projects are required to be translational—the research must demonstrably lead to concrete outcomes in the target domain rather than merely being an 'in principle' or routine application of standard techniques.
Priority Areas
- Differential Equations & Stochastic Modeling: Ordinary and partial differential equations, random processes, and stochastic systems to model complex phenomena in meteorology, oceanography, epidemiology, and geophysics.
- Statistical Methodologies for National Issues: Advanced statistical methodologies applied to medicine, epidemic spread, weather prediction, earthquake modeling, and environmental risk.
- Algebra, Number Theory & Cryptography: Discrete mathematics, number theory, and algebraic geometry applied to problems of national security, including post-quantum cryptography, coding theory, and secure communications.
- Large-Scale Data Analytics & Optimization: Provably effective algorithms for analysis of massive datasets of social relevance (public distribution, healthcare delivery, resource allocation), and statistical optimization in logistics applied to defense, supply chains, and disaster management.
- Medicine & Biomedical Imaging: Medical image analysis, tomographic reconstruction algorithms, dosage optimization, and biomedical signal processing.
- Dynamical Systems & Autonomous Robotics: Control theory and dynamical systems applied to robotics, autonomous navigation, and aerospace engineering.
