Nanosciences Scope & Priorities
Statement: Research proposals in the domain of Nanoscience are encouraged along application areas that are cutting-edge globally and relevant nationally from the perspective of "SHAPE" (Security, Healthcare, Agriculture, Pedagogy, Environment and Energy). Project objectives should concentrate on measurable deliverables based on an established proof-of-concept. Proposals must clearly state their current and projected Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
Priority Areas
- Advanced Electronic, Photonic & Heterogeneous Nanosystems: Nanoscience and fabrication technology for emerging semiconductor electronics; integrated nanophotonics and quantum nano-devices; heterogeneous material integration leveraging national nano-fabrication facilities (e.g. INUP at IISc and IIT Bombay).
- Security: Ultra-sensitive explosive detection, secure nano-tagging, defense sensors.
- Healthcare: Targeted nano-drug delivery systems, point-of-care nano-biosensors, cancer theranostics.
- Agriculture: Nano-fertilizers, controlled pesticide delivery, soil moisture sensing.
- Energy & Environment: High-efficiency solar nano-coatings, thermoelectric nanomaterials, water desalination membranes, and heavy metal adsorption nanostructures.
